🌸 Why start Blossom
BLOSSOM Young Mums has a residency at Goldsmiths CCA where we host stay and play sessions, meet ups, writing circles, group discussions and showcases. Our Space to Bloom programme takes place at the COVO Space and is a 10-month support programme for young mothers aged 15–25 in Peckham, South London. Sessions offer a safe, trauma-informed environment for emotional support, practical guidance, and creative self-expression. We also work with referral partners such as Mamma Kind Baby Bank and Lewisham Bank of Things who can support mums with every things such as buggies, cots and cotbeds, stair gates, clothes, toys and nappies to everyday essentials such as toiletries and washing liquids. We also work with the Alchemy Masters programme to occasionally offer young people the opportunity to support sessions through music and games.
The Need
Teen mums face stigma and judgment.
Many parenting groups cater to middle-class white mothers, leaving young and ethnically diverse mums excluded.
Lewisham has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in London (30.6 per 1,000 girls aged 15–17).
Nearly 1 in 5 young people (16–24) experience mental health challenges, often worsened by socioeconomic barriers.
How Blossom Helps
BLOSSOM provides a welcoming, nurturing space where young mums can:
Connect with others who understand their journey
Express themselves through writing, poetry, songwriting, and spoken word
Build confidence and wellbeing
Access practical support including benefits, housing guidance, and life skills
Use safe spaces for babies and toddlers to play while mums create and share
We also offer workshops, performances, and opportunities to rest and recharge, with support from health and wellbeing practitioners and partner organisations providing donations and resources.
